Robert Paul Weston in Quebec
My 2011 Book Week tour of Quebec was hectic but tremendously rewarding. At every school I visited, the students were extremely engaged and full of insightful questions. One notably sophisticated student asked me if I “had a good editor and what our relationship was like.” I had to give that one a little thought.
As I travelled around, I was delighted to see that, in anticipation of my arrival, many of the schools had produced artwork and activities based on my books, especially Zorgamazoo. What could be more welcoming than walking into a school festooned in pictures of the characters you created?
At a school in Shawville, two students came to my presentation in costume—something that had never happened before! The two were dressed as Zorgamazoo’s villains, Mrs. Krabone and Dr. Lefang, complete with a rather grisly-looking device for lobotomizing children.
Tremendous thanks to Carol-Ann Hoyt in Montreal and Carolyn Code at the Children’s Book Centre in Toronto for all their hard work organizing the events. Without a doubt, Book Week was a fabulous experience and I hope to do it again someday. I had a wonderful time!
