Kari-Lynn Winters in Prince Edward Island

What a trip! I feel so lucky to have been chosen for the TD Canadian Children’s Book tour to Prince Edward Island. I had a busy and memorable week meeting some of the kindest and most generous Canadians, and exploring the island from tip to tip. At each school and library I shared my digital slides, puppets, songs, jokes and hats. At different times throughout the week, the children and I played word hockey, enjoyed free-range aerial skiing, ate biscuits with other teacup pups, tobogganed at the winter carnival, and ran in the rain. Many children wrote sequels to my first book Jeffrey and Sloth, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading. But the best part by far was seeing the children’s and teachers’ faces light up when I shared my stories and reminded them that they are all authors too.

Here is a short poem to sum up my tour:

Eliot River. Sherwood School.
Souris. Tignish.
Cool, cool, cool.
West Kent Elementary — pictures on the wall.
TD provincial launch and cake for all!

Montague, St. Louis, Belfast too.
O’Leary. Ellerslie. Here’s a costume for you!
Somerset. Summerside. Let’s make rhymes.
PEI provides the best of times!

CBC interview and Alberton.
Queen Elizabeth. Central Queens.
Fun, Fun, Fun!
I had a blast exploring your isle.
So I say adieu with a heart-warmed smile.
I will miss you Prince Edward Island!
