Book Week 2009
Book Week Tour
TD Canadian Children’s Book Week ran from Saturday, November 14 to Saturday, November 21, 2009. Twenty-nine English-speaking authors, illustrators and storytellers visited schools, libraries, bookstores and community centres in every province and territory across the country. Read about their experiences and view their photos in our gallery.
Book Week Theme
TD Canadian Children's Book Week celebrated sports in advance of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games which was held on home snow and ice in Vancouver, BC just a few months after Book Week.
Book Week Illustration
We are thrilled that Governor General Awarding-winning illustrator Wallace Edwards created this year’s poster image. Wallace’s image will be the focal image for Book Week 2009 and will appear on all of the materials of the Book Week Kit.
Book Week Kit
Our Book Week Kit will help you celebrate Canadian children’s books during the week-long festival. Award-winning artist Wallace Edwards has created one of his stunning paintings for our 2009 poster. Wallace’s image will be featured on all components of the Book Week Kit, which includes a poster to hang in your classroom or library; bookmarks to hand out to your students; and a theme guide, which lists Canadian sports books for children and young adults, and is packed with activity ideas for using these books in the classroom, library or at home.
TD Grade One Book Giveaway
Since 2000, in cooperation with ministries of education, school boards and library organizations across Canada — the CCBC has given every Grade One student a free Canadian children’s book. The book is to be taken home by each child to keep and to read with their parents.
